Rissa is a municipality with ca 6700 inhabitants in Sør-Trøndelag County, Norway, where human activity is traceable from the early Stone Age. It is part of the Fosen region, a peninsula right outside of Trondheim, consisting of 7 different municipalities. Rissa municipality includes the following villages:
The territory has extended agricultural traditions, either in case of plant production (mainly cereals and potato) or in animal husbandry (the most important agricultural products are milk, meat and eggs), while aquaculture also significant in the region. Regarding industry Rissa commune is engaged in ship building and producing cylinders.
Rissa Municipality in general has a strong volunteer tradition, with many cultural and handicraft-traditions being kept up and communicated to younger generations and visitors through the many different clubs and associations. Much of this being promoted by the newly established cultural and tourist-related projects Perler På En Snor (Pearls on a String), Kyst-Norge and KulturCompagniet.
